WOVEN JEWELLERY
The climate change has become a global concern over the last few decades. Besides, these climatic changes which affect life on the earth in various ways and are having various impacts on the ecosystem and ecology. The ocean level is rising, glaciers are melting, CO2 in the air is increasing, forest and wildlife are declining and the marine life is also getting disturbed due to these changes. This project is an attempt to raise awareness by designing woven jewellery which is made completely by sustainable, recycled or/and up-cycled materials like, jute threads, natural yarn, cloth strips, plastic strips, newspaper, etc.
The jewellery emulates the three main effects of climate change; i.e., rise in sea level, rise in temperature and change in precipitation pattern through different colour palettes. There are three different sets of jewellery for three different effects mentioned above. Each set contains a pair of earrings, a pendant and a bracelet or an anklet.
Rise in sea level
This composition expresses the rise in sea level by a very slight gradient of blue and an orange gradient in the background. The orange gradient depicts the rise in temperature which leads to the rise in sea level.
Rise in temperature
The yellow to red gradient screams warm and hot and depicts exactly the same. The circular form emulates the shape of the Earth.
Change in precipitation pattern
This composition emulates the clear sky getting overpowered with the dark clouds. Irregular and unexpected rainfall is the key theme of this composition.
